Mail and News Questions

  • I've switched Internet Service Providers. How can I change my main email address?

Log in to the website using your Terra account name and password, then go to the Game Functions page and click on the "Change Email" link.
  • Why can't I login to the Terra Newsgroups?

The Terra Discussion Forums require you to create a new account that is separate from your Terra game account.

Software Update Questions

  • Where can I find out what changed when the game is updated?

All changes to the game client and to our servers are posted on the Announcements newsgroup, and on the main page of this webserver.
  • Terra complains about a corrupted file, what happened?

That can happen if there are Internet problems during one of the automated updates. This is also a symptom of someone tampering with the files in Terra's Media folder. If this happens to you, your best bet is to use the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel to uninstall Terra, then go to our Download Page to get a fresh copy of Terra, and re-install. It should solve the problem.

Internet Questions

  • Normally Terra plays great, but today my vehicles controls seemed unresponsive, what is wrong?

There is probably a routing problem somewhere on the Internet between you and TerraCorps. Routing problems increase latency which can make your vehicle hard to control.

These kinds of problems usually last a couple hours. Try connecting up later to see if things improve. If your problems are persistent, consider changing Internet Service Providers.

Also be sure to check the Announcements newsgroup for updates on the status of TerraCorps servers.

  • What kind of Internet Service Provider do I need?

Any will work. Terra works well with the latencies typically experienced on the Internet. You can see exactly how much delay is coming from the Internet and your service provider, by selecting F1 from within Terra. Internet delay and the delay in our servers are both displayed on this pane.

While you are playing, an indicator box in the lower right corner of the screen gives a colored indication of your connection quality. Green is great. Yellow will feel sluggish. Red is unplayable. Note that if the connection goes red, you should wait a minute to see if it recovers on its own.

Unanswered Questions

  • My questions were not answered here, what can I do?

If you don't find a solution on these pages, check the Terra newsgroups for help - chances are, another player has had the same question. If not, you can always send email to one of our customer service addresses.

General Questions

  • I have a foreign keyboard which lacks an @ symbol. How do I issue special commands?

Use the & (ampersand) key, which will produce an @ in Terra on all keyboards. You can also use the \ (backslash) or / (forward slash) keys.
  • What are the system requirements my computer must meet to play Terra?

Terra requires a Pentium PC running Windows 95. It will run on a variety of graphics cards. Most PCs these days will run Terra just fine, as long as they have some sort 3D accelerator card.
  • How do I set the radio channel?

Use the @channel command to change chanels (eg., "@channel 100")
  • I built a fort and now it is gone. What happened to it?

The fort was either razed for non payment of taxes, destroyed by an enemy clan, or a rogue member of your clan destroyed it.

Configuration Questions

  • How do I configure Terra for my computer?

When you launch Terra, you will see a button called "Setup (F1)" -- selecting this button will bring up a window with several configuration options. Try each of the options (some options may have no effect on your computer). The bar on the lower left of the screen shows the Frame Rate. A higher frame rate is better, because the graphics will move more smoothly.
  • What is the 'DirectX Setup (dxsetup.exe)' program in my Terra directory?

This program allows you to set performance optimization options for Terra and to solve certain run-time problems.

    Video/DirectX Options

    • Resolution: Use this to select the game display resolution.
    • Use smaller textures: Select this if you have an older video card.

    Technical Support Options

    • Dump debugging information: check this box only if Terracorps support asks you to. Then run Terra. E-mail the resulting "progress.txt" file to techsupport@terraoutlands.com

    Joystick

    • Ignore joystick throttle wheel: ignore the throttle wheel on your joystick.

Sound Questions

  • Why is there no sound when I play Terra?

    • Check to ensure that the current version of DirectX is installed on your system.
    • Check to make sure that your speakers are turned on.
    • Check the volume control on your desktop (an icon usually located at lower right of the program bar on your desktop, near the clock and other system icons). If volume control is mute or turned down, deselect mute, and/or turn up volume.
